GIRTHS.                   Subject position:The subject assumes a relaxed seated or standing position with the arms hanging by the sides and the head in the Frankfort plane.                 METHOD The girth of the head is obtained in the Frankfort plane at the level immediately above the Glabella with the tape  perpendicular to the long axis of the head.The table needs to be pulled tight to compress the hair.Use of the middle fingers at the sides of the head is often necessary to prevent the tape from slipping over the head.Do not include the ears and ensure that there are no hair pins,clips or similar items in the hair during the measurement. WAIST.                             Subject position:The subject assumes a relaxed standing position with the arms folded across the thorax.            METHOD: This girth is taken at the level of the narrowest point between the lower costal (10th rib) border and the iliac crest.The anthropometrist stands in front of the subject who abducts the arms slightly allowing the tape to be passed around the abdomen. The stub of the tape and the housing are then both held in the right hand while the anthropometrist uses the left hand to adjust the level of the tape at the back to the adjudged level of the narrowest point.
